Editing Session029

===Session Twenty Nine - 22nd November 2024===

The fight with the weird giant conger eel headed hydra creature continued.  Morthos managed to dodge past it as Drex continues to fire eldritch blasts at point blank range at it, Cormir slashes with his longsword, and Mogadon cast another guiding bolt (only at 1st level this time).   Drex and Mogadon are again bitten badly before the creature lets out a demonic roar, frightening Morthos and Mogadon.  With final slashes from Cormir, eldritch blasts from Drex, the monster gets in three more bites on each of them before Spank dodges forward and burns its last hit point away.

Quite badly injured, the group press on, removing heavy armour and preparing for immersion in water as they cross the pool and duck through the short underwater tunnel to come up in a small pool in another wooded area.  As they each came out of the pond, noises could be heard from the south - and after a moment, copies of themselves could be seen.  Believing that attack is the best form of defense, Drex fires off an eldritch blast at the copy of hinmself, only to find himself taking the damage and knocking himself out with the blast.   Mogadon does a spare the dying initially, then a Cure Wounds cast at third level to bring him back around.  Drex's copy had disappeared.  The group tried to get past their copies - which were silently blocking them.   Eventually, Morthos decided to take off his top (bearing in mind the words of the song "bare your heart" - and eventually realised that all he needed to do was to hug his replica.   Cormir quickly followed suit, and after much resistance, Mogadon also followed suit.  The replicas all disapeared and the way ahead, which had been cloaked in darkness, revealed itself - a long 450' path through the trees leading towards a raised stone area where three figures could be seen doing something.

Drex decided it was vital that the group had a short rest before they pressed on - and leaving Spank to watch what the people were doing in the distance - Drex started to cast the dome so that they could short rest in it in relative safety.   After a while, Spank reported that the figures had left the area, only for one of them to return after a little while and start doing something on the raised stone area again.  Smoke started to rise - from either an altar on the top of the raised stone area, of from behind the stone area - Spank couldn't tell from this distance.

After an hour, feeling more rested (Cormir used up 4 of his hit dice, Drex used up three, Morthose used three and I said Mogadon had cast a Cure Wounds spell at 3rd level on himself - (and even rolled 42 on 6d8 putting him on max (he needed 41)) - but I suspect he would have probably rather used hit dice during the short rest rather than cast the spell - so I will retcon that as I was running Mogadon as an NPC for the session!).  

Eventually the group got fed up of resting, and decided to try to sneak up the path between the trees towards where the figure could still be seen - apparently talking to something/someone unseen.  

Drex was obviously not stealthy enough, as the cultist turned around and pointed at Drex.  Instinctively, Drex cast Fireball - engulfing the area around the altar in flame.   Cormir then stepped out of hiding and let loose with a crossbow bolt and Morthose similarly stepped out of hiding to fire an arrow before stepping back into cover and hiding again.  Running short on spells, (only 2 2nd level and 1 3rd level left) Mogadon cast a sacred flame, but the man managed to dodge aside before casting a ball of darkness between the party and himself, hiding himself from view.
