Session Thirty Four- 13th March 2025

Started in the middle of combat:

Mogadon took the initiative, casting a radiant "Guiding Bolt" that illuminated the room as it struck true, momentarily revealing the horrifying form of the creature in its full terror. Cormir, undeterred, moved strategically to flank the beast, launching bolts from his crossbow while deftly dodging its sweeping tail.

In the fray, Morthos utilized the shadows to his advantage, weaving between the columns of stone to deliver swift strikes from his short bow. His agility was key, landing critical blows while avoiding the grasp of the creature. Drex, summoning his eldritch energies, unleashed a "Hex" that encumbered Raljevak, sapping its vitality. The ghost of Elial also attacked through the walls, dealing necrotic damage before it was taken out of the battle for a moment by some spell from the ophidian. Amidst the chaos, Drex was at one point caught in the snake's coils and Morthos was nearly buried under ancient stone book cases that the beast had knocked over.

The battle surged and ebbed, with Raljevak retaliating fiercely, its serpentine form coiling and striking with deadly precision. However, the party's cooperation and strategy shone through. With a final coordinated assault—Mogadon’s healing spells maintaining their strength, Cormir's focused fire, Morthos’s cunning strikes, and Drex's debilitating spells—the ophidian was ultimately subdued, its thrashing form collapsing as the air filled with a victorious silence.

After the battle, the party took a moment to collect themselves, gratitude burning in their hearts. Elial revealed a more profound treasure: the vault of bygone magic hidden within the tower. However, just as hope blossomed, an icy chill swept through the chambers. The encounter with an Ice Mephit was swift — a cunning, small creature that emerged from the shadows, its wings fluttering and breathing frost into the air but it was quickly dispatched.

Their journey led them next to an altar that could be used to control the complex. Whilst the others rested, Mogadon took the time to attune with the altar and determined that there was a weakened psudodragon and a bunch more ice mephits in a nearby chamber. There was also a Vault which, acording to a ledger the Ghost had discovered, contained lots of magical items. Using the altar, Mogadon instructed the constructs in the complex to deal with the ice mephits and opened the vault.

However, their excitement was short-lived as they realised that they had inadvertently released an ominous black ooze, long trapped within the vault. As it started to slither up and over the dome the party had been resting under, they scurrired out and attempted to defeat it. Cormir darted in, slashing with his sword only to find the creature splitting as it splashed him with acid and damaged his flaming sword. When Mogadon's targeted spell was absorbed, seeming to actually heal one of the oozes Drex unleashed a couple of powerful fireballs on it instead, the area effect magic finally managing to destroy the strange life form.

As the party turned to the vault, expecting to find that all the magic they had hoped for would have been disolved by the ooze. Within, the atmosphere pulsed with latent energies—lead-lined walls and corroded furniture hinted at long-stilled magic. Amongst the dust and remnants, they discovered alluring new treasures that had survived however: an alluring amber block, cradling a short sword bright with potential, and a mysterious glass dome housing a small metallic cube adorned with shifting runes.

Pausing to identify them, the group discovered that the sword was a morphic weapon and Cormir took it as a replacement for his damaged sword. The metallic cube however proved to be a puzzle box, and with help from Elial the druid ghost, they managed to open it discovering one of Azimaar's tears - a powerful artifact that threatened the possibility of changing reality itself (a wish spell).
