Session Thirty Five - 28th March 2025
As the session began, the adventurers gathered to discuss their current situation and the path ahead. Morthos, Cormir, Drex, and Mogadon prepared to move forward through an icy cavern, where the Dungeon Master described the imposing ice columns that loomed like stalagmites and stalactites, casting eerie shadows across the ground. The keen eyes of Morthos and Drex led to the identification of some ice structures as ice mephits, prompting the party to strategize their approach to the impending conflict.
Combat erupted as Drex unleashed an Eldritch Blast at one of the mephits, dealing some damage but failing to defeat it. The mephits retaliated with their chilling frost breath, forcing the party to make dexterity saving throws, resulting in varying degrees of cold damage. Morthos retaliated with Hellish Rebuke, igniting one mephit in flames and causing it to explode upon defeat, sending shards of ice flying and injuring nearby allies. The chaos continued as more mephits attacked, and Drex summoned Spank, his fire elemental familiar, to the fray, using its heat to combat the icy foes.
As the battle progressed, Mogadon stepped forward, striking one of the mephits and dealing significant fire damage before it too exploded, further complicating the battlefield with its icy shards. Morthos demonstrated his agility and tactical skill, striking another mephit and avoiding further explosions through careful positioning. Drex altered his spellcasting to target the remaining mephits, leading to more explosions and further chaos. Eventually, the party managed to defeat the ice mephits, ending the immediate threat.
With combat resolved, Morthos began searching for the pseudo dragon they had been seeking, calling out into the cavern. His efforts bore fruit as he discovered the creature trapped in ice. The party quickly devised a plan to free it, using Drex's prestidigitation to gradually melt the ice. After several attempts, the pseudo dragon was freed, albeit weak and hungry. Morthos offered rations, and the creature communicated its name, Arigolanna, through a series of images.
As the party explored further, they stumbled upon a ransacked laboratory. Utilizing detect magic, they identified several magical auras, leading them to investigate a hidden compartment behind a cabinet. After careful examination, Morthos retrieved a box containing six potions of mind reading, which sparked discussions about potential rituals and their future plans, including the possibility of setting up a gambling den.
Leaving the ruins of the Emperor's Tower, the group headed south towards the location where the dwarven tomb of kings - Gal'Nara's Tomb - was believed to be located.
The atmosphere shifted as the adventurers noticed giant footprints nearby, suggesting a recent presence of a giant. Cormir recounted a sighting of a towering giant, prompting the party to decide on a safe camping location away from the tracks. As they set up camp, they discussed their dwindling rations and the need to forage for food. With successful survival checks, Morthos and Drex discovered a recently deceased deer, which they planned to cook using Spank’s fire elemental abilities.
The pseudo dragon shared some of its history, telling, through the use of images, of a crater where a meteor had landed nearby, approximately two to three days’ march west from their current location. However, the party ultimately decided to continue southwards towards Gal’Na ra’s Tomb first. As night fell, they prepared for a watch, establishing a guard rotation. During Morthos’ watch, he spotted two giant spiders approaching their camp, leading to a tense moment as he awakened the rest of the party to prepare for the confrontation.
The session concluded with the adventurers bracing themselves for the impending battle against the giant spiders, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead in their quest.
