Session Thirty Nine - 10th Oct 2025
Within the shadowy depths of the dwarven tomb of Gal’Nara, the adventurers pressed onward in their quest to locate the elusive druid ghost, Nalla the Gifted. They had already faced formidable challenges, including the defeat of skeletal minotaurs and wraiths, and uncovered a journal detailing the reigns of eight monarchs depicted on the ornate doors of the tomb.
As they approached Door 8, its intricate wards caught their attention—seven glowing gems surrounded by an ominous inscription warning: “touch me not without the objects written under death masks.” Intrigued yet cautious, they continued their investigation. Meanwhile, Door 7 had been breached, revealing a Valok lurking within, ready to charge. Cormir de Gaste (Cormir) de Gaste (Cormir de Gaste (Cormir)) stood resolutely at the threshold, prepared to defend against the imminent threat.
In a flurry of action, Drex, the warlock, unleashed two powerful Eldritch Blasts, staggering the Valok. Morthos, the agile tiefling rogue, readied herself to strike as soon as Cormir de Gaste (Cormir) engaged the creature. The Valok surged forth, and Cormir de Gaste (Cormir) landed a solid blow with his magical sword, while Morthos followed up with a well-placed sneak attack, inflicting considerable damage before she retreated to safety.
The Valok, undeterred, retaliated fiercely, clawing and biting at Cormir de Gaste (Cormir) and inflicting significant harm. In a moment of inspiration, Mogadon, the cleric, cast Guiding Bolt, illuminating the Valok and granting their next attack an advantage. Seizing the opportunity, Cormir de Gaste (Cormir) landed two decisive strikes that opened deep wounds on the creature, while Drex continued the assault with more Eldritch Blasts.
Despite a momentary mishap from Morthos, who narrowly avoided hitting Cormir de Gaste (Cormir), the party maintained their focus. The Valok unleashed a necrotic cone attack, afflicting Cormir de Gaste (Cormir), Morthos, and Drex, causing them to retch and lose their reactions. Mogadon attempted another Guiding Bolt but missed; however, his gauntlets provided temporary hit points to bolster the party's resilience.
In a climactic moment, Cormir de Gaste (Cormir) landed a critical strike, dealing devastating damage to the Valok. With Mogadon and Drex combining their efforts, they finally brought the creature down. After the battle, Mogadon took the initiative to skin the Valok, securing its hide for future rituals, while the rest of the party took a moment to rest and recuperate.
As they caught their breath, Drex identified a Wand of Arcane Volatility, an unstable yet powerful tool that would enhance his spellcasting. With the immediate threat quelled, they turned their attention to the crypt behind Door 7, discovering it belonged to Zeva Gal’Nara, Zeva Gal’Nara. A narrow crack in the wall hinted at more secrets beyond, as muffled calls for help echoed from the other side.
Exploring further, the party recovered a mithril disc inscribed with arcane runes, radiating divination magic, which Mogadon began to attune to. Their explorations yielded a substantial haul of treasure, including a significant amount of silver, gold, and platinum, as well as a carved amber gem. However, their pseudo dragon companion remained aloof, unwilling to descend from the upper steps.
Determined to push forward, they forced open Door 1, revealing yet another Valok within. Mogadon wasted no time, casting Guiding Bolt to illuminate the creature as the party braced for combat once more. With Drex channeling his wand to amplify his Eldritch Blasts, they coordinated their attacks against the Valok, successfully pushing it back into its chamber.
After a tense exchange of blows, which included a second necrotic cone attack from the Valok, Drex decisively decapitated the creature with a powerful blast, allowing Mogadon to provide much-needed healing to his allies afterward. The party noted a similar crack in Door 1’s chamber, leading toward Door 8, as they continued their exploration.
Finally, they discovered a Brass Lantern with magical properties and set up a protective dome for a long rest. As the night passed, they replenished their strength and spells, readying themselves for the challenges that lay ahead.
