Session037
Session Thirty Seven - 16th May 2025
Emerging from the darkness, a cadre of undead dwarven guardians appeared, their ash-gray ceremonial wrappings and rune-carved armor giving them a haunting presence. Their baleful orange eyes glinted ominously, and Mogadon recognized them as oathbound dead, bound to defend the tomb. Without hesitation, Drex unleashed a Fireball, the explosion tearing through the ranks of the guardians, though some managed to withstand the fiery onslaught.
Stepping forward, Mogadon presented his holy symbol with conviction, successfully turning three of the guardians, while one remained steadfast. The tension escalated as two more guardians joined the fray. Cormir charged in bravely, striking the unturned guardian twice and inflicting significant damage, while Morthos readied his bow, his arrow narrowly glancing off a guardian's shield as he prepared for close combat.
As the battle intensified, one guardian unleashed a frightful aura, leaving Cormir momentarily paralyzed by fear, but Mogadon stood unyielding. The undead guardians pressed their advance, yet Drex retaliated with two Eldritch Blasts, landing a substantial blow on one of the guardians. Cormir, overcoming his fear, took a moment to regroup before re-engaging in the fight.
In a moment of divine intervention, Mogadon summoned Spirit Guardians, creating an aura that halved the enemies' movement and dealt radiant damage to the advancing guardians. The tide of battle shifted further as Drex targeted another guardian with two more Eldritch Blasts, while Spank unleashed a Fire Burst that reduced one guardian to ashes.
As the fight raged on, Cormir tapped into the energy stored within his shield, unleashing a powerful blast that vaporized a guardian in a spectacular display of might. With the remaining guardians finally routed, the party took a moment to recover, with Mogadon casting Cure Wounds to mend Cormir’s injuries. Morthos, ever cautious, scouted the lower landing for traps, confirming the absence of danger and revealing a chamber filled with standing sarcophagi.
To fortify their position, Mogadon secured the opposite stone door, preventing further undead incursions. In their exploration, they discovered a shallow pool inscribed with Dwarvish runes that warned of judgment for the unworthy. Morthos and Mogadon tested the waters, confirming Mogadon’s safe passage through the pool, which he traversed unharmed.
The party delved deeper into the crypt, descending into an octagonal chamber strewn with animal bones and lined with gilded tomb doors. Mogadon recognized the site as the crypts of the Al Nazir dwarves, each door likely marking a royal burial. Drex noted a transmutation aura emanating from the floor, hinting at hidden dangers.
As they rested briefly on the stairs, Drex and Cormir prepared themselves for the challenges that lay ahead. In a moment of mischief, Spank triggered the transmutation, causing scattered bones to coalesce into eight Minotaur skeletons. Drex quickly responded with a Fireball, followed by Spank’s Fire Burst, which reduced four skeletons to ash. A second Fireball obliterated the remaining foes, securing the chamber for the party.
With the bone guardians defeated, the adventurers examined the gilded door engravings, which depicted various scenes of dwarven lore and triumph. Morthos called out for Nalla the Gifted, the ghost druid they sought, but the silence of the tomb offered no reply. Steeling themselves for the mysteries that lay deeper within the dwarven tomb, the party readied to uncover its secrets and face whatever challenges awaited them.
