Session Forty - 7th Nov 2025[edit]

In the shadowy depths of the dwarven tomb of Gal'Nara, the party gathered to strategize their next move, their focus resting on the mysterious Wand of Arcane Volatility. They reviewed their past explorations, confirming they had meticulously examined Tombs 1, 2, 5, and 7, while Tombs 3, 4, and 6 remained untouched, waiting to reveal their secrets. Their curiosity piqued by the sealed Door 8, they recalled a journal they had found, hinting at an upper chamber filled with significant lore regarding the eight monarchs of the Gal’Nara Dwarves.

As they catalogued the rulers listed in the journal, they encountered a colorful cast of characters: the Blood King, Weeping King, King of Meat, Steel Queen, Queen of Mud, Bound King, Queen Who Wanders, and Galenara, the Last Queen. An epitaph clue connected to Door 8 hinted at symbols representing these monarchs. Utilizing their magical prowess, the party detected wards linked to seven gems above the door, each corresponding to the monarchs’ artifacts.

With determination, they engaged in a series of tests to disarm each ward. They touched a rope for the Bound King, wielded a battleaxe for the Steel Queen, and collected mud for the Queen of Mud. Each successful action extinguished the corresponding gem, culminating in a triumphant moment as they applied fresh meat for the King of Meat, snuffing out the last gem. The ancient door creaked open, releasing a wave of musty air that swept into the vast chamber beyond.

Inside, they beheld a grand hall adorned with intricate dwarven reliefs, a black marble dais, and a sarcophagus depicting a regal dwarven woman. Jagged fissures encircled the entrance, suggesting the tomb’s precarious state. Seven statues of the rulers stood sentinel, though one lay broken and toppled. As they explored, a crown fashioned from dead-eyed rats was revealed atop the sarcophagus, scattering when illuminated by their dancing lights. A muffled whimper echoed from the vicinity of the sarcophagus, hinting at something lurking within the shadows.

Advancing with caution, the party sent their lights into the fissures, stirring unsettling sounds of skittering rats. Upon crossing the fissure, the statues reacted dramatically, weeping black liquid from their eyes. Suddenly, a large An enhanced Valok emerged from the shadows, landing with a powerful thud and unleashing a necrotic breath that nearly caught the party off guard. Cormir narrowly evaded the attack, while others braced themselves for the chaos that ensued.

As combat erupted, Drex and Morthos sprang into action, casting Hellish Rebuke to retaliate against the An enhanced Valok, while Mogadon summoned Spirit Guardians to shield his allies. The An enhanced Valok struck back fiercely, clawing and biting at Cormir and Mogadon, the latter sustaining a critical hit that tested his concentration on maintaining his spells. The battle escalated, with the An enhanced Valok using lair actions to summon swarms of undead rats, complicating the fight even further.

The party executed tactical maneuvers with precision. Cormir engaged the An enhanced Valok head-on, Morthos flanked using Misty Step, and Drex unleashed a barrage of Eldritch Blasts. In a moment of heroism, Morthos landed a critical strike with her longsword, delivering devastating damage that split the creature’s back and turned the tide of battle.

Ultimately, the An enhanced Valok collapsed, defeated by the party’s relentless assault. The surviving rat swarm scattered, leaving the adventurers to catch their breath amidst the remnants of their fierce confrontation. The grand sarcophagus loomed before them, and the muffled voice that had echoed during the battle still lingered, unaddressed, promising more mysteries yet to unfold.
