Session Forty Four - 30th Jan 2026[edit]
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting an ominous glow over Tomar's Crossing, the party braced themselves for the impending horde of demons. Drex, having cast Fly on himself and Morthos, soared to the rooftops alongside Cormir, Mogadon, and Morthos, strategically positioning themselves atop the inn. Below, the air thickened with the stench of brimstone as pig-faced demons, known as dretches, advanced, exhaling noxious clouds that sent commoners fleeing for safety.
Cormir, now towering in size, opened fire with his crossbow, striking one of the approaching dretches. The creature staggered but continued its advance, joined by a swarm of its foul brethren. Morthos quickly dispatched the wounded dretch, marking her first kill of the battle. Meanwhile, Mogadon summoned radiant energy, unleashing a wave of divine wrath that obliterated several dretches and severely injured others.
As the battle raged on, the common folk fled towards the nearby stream, desperate to escape the chaos. Cormir continued to chip away at the advancing horde, while Mogadon’s aura of protection incinerated more demons as they stumbled into its radiant embrace. Morthos, maintaining her aerial advantage, thinned the ranks further with precise shots from her shortbow.
The tide of battle shifted dramatically with the arrival of two Vrocks, large vulture-like demons that soared into the fray. Seizing the opportunity, Drex unleashed a powerful Lightning Bolt at one of the Vrocks, dealing significant damage despite its magical resistance. Cormir cleaved through a dretch and executed a critical strike against another, showcasing his prowess in combat.
The Vrocks retaliated fiercely. One unleashed a Stunning Screech, catching Morthos off guard and leaving her stunned, while the other targeted Cormir and Mogadon, inflicting painful wounds. Despite the chaos, Drex managed to drop one of the Vrocks with a barrage of Eldritch Blasts, a testament to his skill and determination.
As the battle continued, the remaining dretches surged forward, but Cormir and Mogadon held their ground. Cormir cleared out stragglers while Mogadon provided crucial healing and support. Just as victory seemed within reach, a Hezrou, a massive toad-like demon, leapt into view, adding to the chaos.
Drex prepared his Iron Flask, but the Vrock swooped down, viciously attacking him and knocking him unconscious. Morthos rushed to revive him with a healing potion, dragging him to safety within the inn, where the Malaga provided additional healing potions to the beleaguered adventurers.
With renewed determination, Mogadon recast Spirit Guardians, re-establishing the protective aura that had served them well. The battle intensified as Cormir engaged the Vrock in melee, binding it with fiery shackles while Mogadon’s Spiritual Weapon struck true. Drex, now back in the fight, unleashed more Eldritch Blasts, contributing to the Vrock's demise.
As the Hezrou fell to the combined might of the party, their focus shifted back to the last Vrock, which continued to harass them. Morthos attempted to strike it with an acid Chromatic Orb but missed, retreating for cover. The party prepared to finish off the last Vrock, their resolve unwavering, while a distant Glabrezu demon was spotted advancing ominously on the battlefield, hinting that their fight was far from over.
