Draconic Embersphere
Draconic Embersphere[edit]
Description[edit]
The Draconic Embersphere is a delicate amulet made of a fine chain adorned with what looks like an exquisite brass scale as its centerpiece. The scale gleams with a warm, fiery hue, and when held up to light, it seems to flicker like the dancing flames of a hearth. The amulet emits a gentle, comforting heat, giving a sense of protection to those who wear it.
Magical Auras[edit]
- Evocation (Moderate): The Draconic Embersphere emits a moderate evocation aura, indicating the presence of active magical energy imbued within the amulet. This aura is linked to the amulet's power to enhance fire-based spells and provide resistance to fire damage.
- Abjuration (Faint): The amulet also exhibits a faint abjuration aura, representing the protective properties of the Flame Ward ability. This aura suggests that the amulet is enchanted to create a defensive barrier against fire-based attacks.
- Divination (Faint): There is a faint divination aura surrounding the Draconic Embersphere, hinting at the amulet's Draconic Insight ability. The amulet seems to be infused with ancient knowledge, aiding the attuned spellcaster in their understanding of magic and its mysteries.
Details[edit]
Wondrous item, uncommon Attunement: Requires attunement by a spellcaster.
While wearing the Draconic Embersphere, the attuned spellcaster gains the following benefits:
- Flame Ward: The amulet bestows the wearer with a subtle protective aura. Once per short rest, the attuned spellcaster can use their reaction to gain resistance to fire damage until the start of their next turn. They can instinctively invoke this defence when faced with fiery assaults.
- Ember Spark: The amulet resonates with arcane energy, enhancing the attuned spellcaster's spellcasting prowess. When rolling damage for any spell that deals fire damage, the attuned spellcaster can re-roll any 1s on the damage dice. They must accept the new roll.
- Draconic Insight: The amulet deepens the attuned spellcaster's connection to the arcane world. They gain advantage on Intelligence-based ability checks related to spellcasting, deciphering magical writings, or identifying magical items. The amulet seems to whisper ancient secrets, guiding the spellcaster's understanding of the arcane.
History[edit]
This was taken from the body of Merriath the Quick. Kadra recognised it as a cherished heirloom that she had seen once before, in the hands of a powerful sorcerer, handed down over the generations - the scale in the centre of it one of a handful plucked from the original dragon cocoon by the man who then became the first ever Al’Shekeim sorcerer. Only a few select bloodlines would have had this passed down and it would attract a lot of attention in Al'Shekeim should the party ever go there.
