The Cast

The PCs

  • Cormir De'Glast - [Male Human Fighter 3 - Rune Knight] - A tall strong man of many talents, Cormir De'Glast, or Corm for short, is a fighter first and foremost. Obsessed with giants, he has studied their lore for years, finally making a breakthrough recently as he finally managed to unlock some of their runic magic to incorporate into his fighting abilities.

Cormir's Background

  • Morthos - [Male Tiefling Rogue 3 - Arcane Trickster] - An unusual looking being, complete with horns, tail, silver pupil-less eyes and purple hair, Morthos stands out in any crowd - which given his preference for skulking in the shadows and going unnoticed is unfortunate.

Morthos's Background

  • Drex- [Male Aasimar Warlock 3] - Another unusual looking fellow, short with silver hair, pearlescent pupil-less eyes and pale skin, Drex turns heads wherever he goes. The whisper sprite often perched on his shoulder is also a head turner - the faerie-like being like a miniature flying catwalk model with translucent wings.

Drex's Background

  • Mogadon Ironheart - [Male Dwarven Cleric 3] - A traditional dwarf with a rock solid view of how the world should be.

The NPCs

IN TOMAR'S CROSSING

AT FORT FROSTFELL

  • Dourkeg - the hobgoblin leader who controlled the goblins. Now deceased.
  • Gothmog Plaguereaper - the Wight that Ralekai Gravemore had set in place to keep the goblinoids in line. Now deceased.
  • Harlyot Crushade - Used to be a guard captain in Safeharbour, now works for Ralekai Gravemore to keep an eye on Harlan Barrypot
  • Horlen Barrypot - Gnome wizard doing research on the Demonplague for Ralekai Gravemore
  • Chillwyrm - the gem loving wyvern who turned a blind eye to goblin slaying for a gem or two.
  • Borden and Gower - two ex-Militia from Sweetwater who helped the party escape Fort Frostfell

HEARD ABOUT, BUT NOT MET YET

  • Allia Thernius - Bjalien’s niece that had gone missing since the group of refugees she had left Safeharbor with had been set upon by bandits led by a half-ogre.
  • Ralekai Gravemore - the necromancer who is looking for a cure to the Demonplague
  • Phalin and Callie - a priestess and her acolyte daughter who had remained behind in the ruined village of Sweetwater to maintain the daily ritual to keep Galell trapped beneath the church.
  • Galell - an undead nymph (a Merath) who, when alive, had fallen in love with a human miner named Branock Finthar, only to be murdered by his brother Allan in a fit of jealous rage.
  • Gartlemak - a power of some sort? Mentioned by the cultists that had ambushed the party on the way back from Fort Frostfell, as well as multiple times in the ancient goblin book the cultists had.
  • Xancrown - a demon? Named amongst the Abyssal symbols on the altar in Bazil the Bizarre’s basement.

NAMES HEARD BUT OF PEOPLE THE PARTY WILL NEVER ACTUALLY MEET

  • Branock and Allan Finthar - many years ago a miner and his brother from the village of Sweetwater both fell in love with a nymph named Galell. In a fit of jealous rage, Allan killed both the nymph and his brother, causing the nymph to later return as an undead horror - a Merath.

Open Plots Lines (to remind the PCs)

Here is a list of the current open “plots”, how the party found out about them and what “clues”they have come across so far… Not necessarily in any order... Though given the name of the campaign is "The Demonplage" - thought it best to pop that one at the top :-)

  1. The Demonplague
    1. First mentioned by Harlyot Crushade when Cormir, Morthos and Drex met her in the basement of Fort Frostfell. She said she was working for a necromancer named Ralekai Gravemore - who had saved her life and persuaded her that she needed to protect the gnome Harlan Barrypot, who he had also rescued, and tasked with researching anything related to “The Demonplague” he could find in the basement library of Fort Frostfell. Ralekai had also recruited some hobgoblins and goblins plus an undead Wight (named Gothmog Plaguereaper that the PCs have slain), to assist with the process of finding a cure for the plague. This involved the very questionable tactic of kidnapping people for research purposes into the plague and how it might be cured.
    2. An encounter with a bunch of cultists on the trail back from Fort Frostfell resulted in the recovery of a old book filled with goblin ravings, which, when translated constantly referred to the need to sacrifice people to a power named “Gartlemak” to gain protection from a “terrible plague”.
    3. Basil the Bizarre, although clearly mad, had murdered three people and had an altar in his basement and had raved about “a terrible plague that would return, turning its victims into zombies and demons!” He had an altar in his basement that had some abyssal runes that mentioned a demon called “Xancrown”, as well as some similar nonsense symbols that seemed to echo those found in the cultists goblin book. Basil claimed to have had a vision.
  2. The old lady in the dream
    1. Cormir, Morthos and Drex all shared a vision whilst unconscious at Fort Frostfell. The vision showed a kindly faced (*) old lady with twigs and leaves in her hair, who seemed to imply she was in the basement of Fort Frostfell somewhere and who needed freeing. (*) Only Drex thought she looked creepy rather than kindly faced... but then again, his standards aren't necessarily the same as everyone else's...  :-)
  3. The missing prisoners
    1. When at Fort Frostfell, the prisoners that the PCs rescued mentioned that other prisoners had been taken. Some would have been eaten by the goblinoids, but some were taken somewhere else. Several had been taken just a day earlier. A map on the wall of the Hobgoblin's room showed a place called Grading Marhold barely a day's march away.
  4. Saving Kadra from Merriath the Quick
    1. Councilwoman Kadra is a low level sorceress, and her previous mentor, Merriath the Quick, had gone mad after hearing that dragons had returned to the world - and got this strange idea that if she were to drink the blood of all her students she would then become a dragon herself.
    2. Having battled Merriath twice, the party know she can cast some fairly powerful spells, including Wall of Fire, Dimension Door, Fireball, Dispel Magic, Flaming Hands, Invisibility and Scorching Ray with possibly others. She apparently also has a poison dagger, and some means of changing her appearance.
    3. Apparently Merriath will need a good uninterrupted hour to perform the ritual once she has kidnapped Kadra.
  5. Find Bjalien’s niece Allia Thernius.
    1. She left Safeharbor with a group of refugees who made it to Tomar’s Crossing after being set upon by bandits led by a half-ogre. He tells the characters Allia is his niece and asks if they could find her and bring her to him. He will pay 100 gp for her safe return.
  6. Investigate Bjalien’s stolen locket.
    1. He suspects one of his fellow council members - Colinus Birthwitch, Paumine Sandlewood or Kadra Tourmaline.
  7. Guard the Bakery
    1. Phelm Barristar asked the party if they would sleep in the bakery at night as he was paranoid that given the deluge of refugees in the town and the lack of food, that someone would break in. He would allow the PCs to have free baked goods as payment.
    2. Messa Barristar was obviously upset about something when Morthos first entered the bakery, but submissively left when her husband Phelm came in with their three small children.
    3. Cormir found a concealed hiding spot in the floor of the bakery with a burlap bag hidden below, trapped by a small bell.
  8. Building material for the refugees
    1. Malaga Taerwain, the owner of the Weary Traveller Inn mentioned that some of the refugees from Safeharbor had told her that large tents were part of a merchant shipment captured by a group of bandits with skull brands on their necks led by a half-ogre. If the PCs can recover these tents for Malaga, she will be a hero to the refugees, and she’ll be able to free up some of the space in The Weary Traveler.
  9. Capture a Zombie Rat
    1. Paumine is very curious about the zombie rats popping up in the valley. She offers to give the characters a magic scroll of their choice from her collection if they bring her one to research.
  10. Votes for Refugees
    1. Huberg Greyborn mentioned that he was frustrated by the fact that the refugees had no say in the way the village was being run - which given the refugees now outnumbered the original residents, was crazy. He wants to persuade the council to give votes to the refugees.
    2. Cadica Le’blorne, completely separately expressed the same desire, though stated that he would also want to run as a council member himself, what with his experience of being a leader and all.
  11. Visit Sweetwater to deal with Merath (an undead nymph)
    1. Borden, one of the people rescued from Fort Frostfell, mentioned that Priestess Phalin and her acolyte daughter Callie had remained behind at the village of Sweetwater when the floods forced everyone to flee.
    2. Apparently, many years ago in the village, a miner (Branock Finthar) had fallen in love with a nymph named Galell, but his brother Allan, in a jealous rage, had murdered both of them. The nymph returned as an undead horror - a merath - after murdering Allan, and terrorised the village until the priests of the village intervened. Unable to vanquish the merath, they bound it with special wards in their catacombs beneath the village church. The merath had been stuck there for several generations now - with the priests renewing the wards every day to ensure she remains bound. The few times they failed, she escaped and killed someone, so Phalin and Callie remained behind when the comet struck and the villagers fled - to continue to set the wards every day.
